Default What's this thing?

Hi All,

I'm having a heck of a time trying to get the motor out of my '94 DS. I've read a bunch of threads and seen various bits of advice for people in my current situation. (I've got the 4 bolts out and can rotate the motor, but can't get it to release.)

While I'm currently taking a break from this exhausting task. Can anyone tell me what the thing in the picture is? (The thing to which the red arrow is pointing.)

Thanks,

TJ

If I'm not mistaken that is the air vent for the differential.

I agree with Olman, my cart has it, I believe it's a vent

Have you got the motor out?
Maybe you could spray some WD-40 down near the splines?

toddjohnson, tahoedawg has a fool proof system for removing the motor.. I don't have the thread but it has something to do with jacking up the rear end and dropping it on the ground.. Again, do not do what I just told you, hopefully someone can show you that thread as there's a specific way to do it.. Good luck

Thanks guys. I did use the "drop it" trick but no luck. (I took the whole axle / differential / motor assembly out of the cart and held it vertically and dropped it on the passenger hub.) The housing came off, but the armature is still stuck. I've soaked it with liquid wrench. So much so that it is leaking out of the vent that was the thing I was curious about when I started this thread.

I've decided to give it a rest. I've moved on to a trim/tilt motor issue on an outboard motor. Toys are fun, but a pain sometimes.

Oh happy day! Success. I used a torch a few times, added more Liquid Wrench a few times, and then decided to drop it not on wood as I had been doing, but rather on asphalt. There are now some indentations in the road in front of my house, but at least the armature has now broken free!!
