Default 94 Club Car DS Series Acceleration / Petal Problem

I'm new to golf carts and this forum. Thanks for all the great posts I've already read and the responses you will provide to this.

I have a 1994 Club Car DS Series (non-regen) 36V cart. It has an acceleration problem that has gotten progressively worse over 5 months. Shortly after I purchased it last fall, I noticed that if you push the petal to the floor, all power would stop. If you eased off the petal to about 3/4, it would resume motion. It occurred in both forward and reverse. Its gotten worse in that now you can only depress petal to 1/3 - 1/2 its range. You have to find the sweet spot to get power/motion.

I've read prior posts on this topic and have done what I can to find the problem with no luck so far. Batteries are good, and I cleaned all posts/connections. I examined the petal linkage and noticed no appreciable lag or issue. When petal is depressed, you here the initial "click" from the V-Glide. When the power stops, you don't here anything to indicate power stopped. Just silence. I removed batteries and examined the V-Glide (pie shaped box under seat). The glide appears to be working. When the petal is depressed, the glide extends fully. The copper is nice and shiny.

One other issue is that when you depress the petal and get initial power, it seems very abrupt, almost like a jolt. This may be normal, but thought I would include since this might be a clue to you.

I'm not very good with electrical issues, so please be as detailed as possible with any advice or suggestions.

Thanks a bunch,

One of the guru's will chime in I am sure but you may want to check the v glide contacts to make sure its constant through the entire motion. Crash test dummy put a pic on another post recently maybe he can put it here for you too.

Well I would jack up the rear wheels and jump the solenoid (2 large post) and see if it goes....check ALL cables to make sure tight and not corroded ....load test each battery to make sure one aint dropping out on you , if you don't have a load tester get a cheap volt meter and check pack voltage at rest then watch it to see if it drops when under load......check resistor coils to make sure they aint touching or burnt in half (probably wouldn't go at all if this were the case though)

I've made progress. I examined connection on FR switch and all looks good. I took off VGlide arm and cleaned both sides to a shine. The acceleration was much improved. On a rack, I was able to get full throttle, with some intermittent stopping and resuming of power. That is when I noticed what I think is the main problem.

The rear wheels were slowing down fast once power stopped, and at some points the right rear wheel failed to turn at all. I tried turning wheels in neutral, and it was very difficult. I removed tires and brake drums. Presto, every thing worked great. Push petal to floor, and you get full power.

So now I need to fix the brake issue. I've seen a few other posts about this problem, it seems to be common. But Im not sure where to start. any suggestions?

Thanks,

Well, I thought I had this problems solved. After cleaning the V-Glide, and cleaning and readjusting the brakes, I was able to put the petal to the floor without the power shutting off. Several test drives / accelerations were successful. However, after a full night's charge, the problem reappeared. I am only able to press the petal to about 3/4ths before the power shuts off (both forward and reverse). At this point I am at a lost as to what is wrong. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks,

hmm.....you need to hook up the volt meter while your driving it and see what happens.....if it happens at the same "spot" on the pedal every time , I would think it would HAVE to be in the vglide or the 3 or 4 resistor coil.....loose wire on vglide or coil ?
