1990 Club Car DS Steering Issue
I have this issue with my 1990 DS 36v. What happens is if I turn the wheel all the way to the left, the steering locks up and the arm goes compresses inside the steering bellows on the right side. If I turn the wheel all the way to the right, the arm protrudes out way past the bellows. The bellows is ripped. Is there a reason why the bellows ripped?
Pics will follow. |

With the wheel centered , it should turn 1 and a half turns in both directions....

Well I may have slipped a tooth on the gear ....make sure shock tower isn't bent , if not just take that ujoint coupler off ( I just take the 3 bolts off the gear and let it drop down enough to get it off the splines ) and center it till you get 1 and a 1/2 turns both ways......
here's a pic ( As per Tahoedawg) of a bent one that will let it extend to far and "skip" a tooth.... http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...t-img_5119.jpg |

I checked the shock tower and it is straight as an arrow. I also noticed that the steering wheel is exactly upside down when the wheels are straight.

Man , that sounds like this thread....
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...alignment.html if the wheels are straight and you don't have equal turns (1 and a 1/2 ) both ways it must have skipped somehow or got wrecked /bent.......center the steering wheel (1 and a half turns ) and see how far off the tires are ...maybe some body put tie rods on it and screwed things up...... |

I am going to be at the cart tomorrow and I am going to remove the rack and pinion assembly and fiddle with it. Who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and find something.

The adjustment on the end of your rack is where you would adjust to change your steering throw...... Shorter equals more left turn and longer equals more right turn..... Keep playing with it til it's 50/50. When you finish, pop the steering wheel off, center it, re-tighten

Re: 1990 Club Car DS Steering Issue
Would it being out of adjustment cause the bellows to rip?
