Newbie from mi just got my first cart 82 cc

Hello from southeast michigan. I just purchased this 82 club car for 300$ but I'm pretty sure it needs batteries. The connections were badly corroded so I cleaned them with baking soda and water. In the process two studs broke and three cable ends. I am in the process of getting them all reconnected and once I do so I will give them a charge. My question is once they are charged how do I test them and if I have some that are useable can I just replace the bad ones or would it be best to replace the whole pack? Well then , Welcome !.....to load test you need something like this ,

and might as well pick up a DVM (digital volt meter) you'll need it....

and , I guess you could just replace the bad one's but I doubt you have any "good" one's......so be prepared to spend about $600 for them ( or way more )

If the batteries are very old it would be best to replace the whole pack. Just replacing one or two bad ones and then having older ones isn't really good for the batteries on the cart as they'll all have different charging rates. If some of your cables broke also, you should look into a battery cable set, go at least 4 ga, 2 ga. would be better.

Thanks for the help guys. Today I made good connections on all of the batteries and checked the water level and added where needed but turns out one of them has a hole in two of the three cells. So right off the bat I know I need one battery. 600$ is more then I want to spend on batteries right now. I have been researching and would like to do the 48v conversion eventually. This year I just want to have it going on the lowest amount of money possible. There is a place about an hour from me that sells refurbished cart batteries for 55$ each. Has anyone had experience with refurbs? He offers a six month warranty with them I might go that route to hold me over I just don't want to spend all of that money when I am contemplating the conversion still. What are your opinions? Thanks again!

No I have not had a chance to load test any of them. My buddy has one of those testers he is gonna bring it by tomorrow and let me use it to test them.

Well if you have a 12 volt battery charger you can charge them 2 at a time till he gets there.....as far as the refurbs , I guess take the load tester with you and I guess if he will stand behind them .....depending on how many you need.
......if one was that bad im guessing they are pretty old (should have a date code on there somewhere) and may not be a good one in the bunch.......you may get lucky and only need one though......I ran one for a couple years on "mismatched" less than perfect batteries but it was just a yard cart and stayed close to home......

check the local craigs list. I know there are guys who have shops around that sell used batteries...real cheap. That will get you buy for a year. Start saving and buy a new set next year. Like the previous guy says... if your staying close by you will be safe.

Ended up buying advanced auto brand batteries, six brand new ones got a killer deal at 43$ each I really couldn't pass it up! Now my question is how long does it take to get a full charge on them from empty the timer doesn't work on my charger and I don't want to over charge them. Thanks again for all of your replies.

If they are auto batteries you did not get a very good deal. They will not hold up very long in a golf cart.
