Best cart choice to meet my needs?
Hey, I'm looking for a cart to fix up and was looking for a little advice. I want to build a lifted cart and fix it up for hunting and yard/farm work. I would like to upgrade the motor and controller for extra speed and torque, but I have young children so I would like to be able to regulate the speed when I don't need it. I don't want to spend over 5-6k total. Which years and manufacturer do you think would be best? Best motor and controller combos? Speed regulation? Thanks for any help!

Welcome to BGW!
I would recommend a series DS cart. They are easy to upgrade. You could either buy a later model one that is already wired series, or pick up an old resistor and get a conversion kit from Scottyb at Carts Unlimited. |

Alltrax SPM control has a reduced speed feature. You can program the speed on a slide scale and activate it with a remote toggle switch. Look at pkg #485 here > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html Generally series drive carts are best for off road use.

Re: Best cart choice to meet my needs?
You posted on the club car forum so most people here are kinda partial to them. Club car has pretty much every upgrade you would need readily available at most of the site sponsors and if you use it for hunting you won't have to worry about the frame rusting out from the adverse conditions. You do have to watch for cracks though.

Club Car all the way! No rust!! I get a lot of mud on mine. Also, with all the off road trails and bumps, I suspect I get a fair amount of battery fluid spilling over. I have seen a few EZGOs with rusted frames from the battery spilling over.
Go with the DS series cart. You won't be disappointed. |

Re: Best cart choice to meet my needs?
I have CCs and EZGOs, and both have their merits. I will say however, that Club Car is my favorite because of lots of little stuff, plus the aluminum frame is a huge plus. Also, EZGO brakes - to be quite frank, they suck. Club Car carts have a waaay better braking system stock.
Bottom line is I'd recommend a Club Car DS for what you wanna do. |
