Default Holy Cow Batman !!

Been modifying a 2003 CC DS 48V series. My goal was a 25 mph cart for my wife. I started at the beginning with a new set of Trojan T875s. Then I added Scotty's 2ga wire set and a HD switch. I then added a 500 amp FSIP controller and a PQ motor. Thinking I needed more torque and speed I ordered a custom EMP motor designed by Chuck. Also ordered a HD Solenoid, 400 amp breaker and a B&C fire extinguisher which came in late today. I hope to finish up tomorrow with the entire project. So here is the results. I basically tried 3 motors today. Stock, PQ Bandit and EMP.

Results:

1. Stock Motor - good torque and top speed of 15.3 MPH (GPS measured) on flat test road.

2. PQ Motor - Better torque and top speed of 22.9 MPH same road

3. EMP Custom Motor - Incredible torque (A++++) and top speed of 33 + MPH. Chuck told me to keep to 33 MPH or less. It was still pulling strong at 33 MPH. Scary fast!!

Will finish up with fuse and Scotty's solenoid tomorrow.

Thanks to all that helped us with our BGW project !!

Wow that's some impressive speed. Very cool. Keep us posted with the run time / range you get out of it.

Electrical Motor Products Inc. They are a motor company much like D&D or Plum Quik although they are not site sponsors. I have one of their 2 speed motors. In speed mode the cart runs 30+.

Electrical Motor Products, Inc. (Olman beat me to it lol)

I'm running an EMP motor in my cart that was supposed to be a speed and torque upgrade motor, truthfully it's not all that much different than stock I think - I'm not real impressed with it, could've spent less and got better results from PQ.

Mind sharing the specs on that motor? I'd really like to know.

I'm surprised 93. I got the motor when the cart was stock 36v and speed went from 12+/- to 24. Torque difference was at least double. Just sayin---

I hear lots of good about them, just can't seem to relate to that with my experience. I'm still 36 volt but with a 500 amp controller, all 2 ga cables, HD F/R and solenoid, and 20.5 inch tires currently. Should have torque and speed, but the performance from the motor just seems like a stock motor. I have a suspicion that it's one of their built motors that is a lot like a stock motor - I ordered it back when I was still a major modification newbie and I'm thinking it was error on my behalf in not getting the right one.

Anyhow, sorry about the hijack - that's an awesome gain in speed and torque, would still love to see the specs on the motor too!

Sorry about the site sponsor thing, not my intent to push non sponsors. I will ask and maybe they would like to become sponsors.

As I shopped around to PQ, D&D, etc motor folks I ran across Chuck at EMP Inc. I understood the principles of adding more voltage gives you speed and adding more amps give you torque. Being a retired USAF scientist, Chuck took the time to explain to me the 101 of electric motors. He explained, RPM, Peak RPM, Max recommended RPM, HP Ratings and more. He emailed me thousands of words and even some graphs. He then spend considerable time understanding my current cart configuration and my hopes for what I wanted to accomplish. He then married them and came up with 5 options for me to pick from listing expected MPH, Torque and thermal construction. I chose option 5 which has a different armature construction, with fewer conductors to help increase top speed but larger conductors and brush/commutator system to help handle higher currents. Max expected top speeds 29-32 MPH and a calculated max torque -- 60 foot pounds. As far as exact specs on this motor I will have to ask. I do remember 5500 RPMs mentioned.

93yellowclubcar - not sure about why your experience was different.

I can tell you the straight scoop and the 3 motors I have (Stock GE, PQ and EMP). I charged the cart and the next day tested on a flat road each motor within a few hour period. I have 2ga wires, HD Switch, 500 amp FSIP controller and a 5 inch lift with 23" tires (measure 22.5"). First I tested the stock motor. It ran good with decent torque and "got up" to 15 mph. Next the PQ had more torque (20%) and "winds up" to 22 MPH. The EMP had considerable more torque (70%) and "shoots up" to 32 mph.

IMHO - the PQ was the best bang for the buck of the motors. It worked with stock components. The EMP was easily the best performing but required better components like wires, HD switch and 500 amp controller hence more expensive option.
