'95 CC, starting from scratch

Ok, so just to clear the air, I am new to the cart scene. But I picked up a 95 (electric) Club Car for cheap, and I'm ready to build it. Ive been in to building import cars and bagging minitrucks (please, save the insults, I get enough from my wife about building both, lol), so this is a whole new beast for me but I am enthusiastic about starting something new. I am on somewhat of a budget, but I can usually fab up anything I need without having to buy things that become expensive. So anything I can build rather than buy would be great.

I do know that it has a 48v setup, however the previous owner decided to scrap the old batteries before I had a chance to see what kind they were. So I guess my first question is, what batteries would give me the best performance. Ive read threads on here, and from what Ive seen, the Crown batteries seem to be the favorite among the majority. But where is the best (and cheapest) place to buy them? I am also wanting to run a stereo and a couple speakers, so what (if any) differences should I know about?

Next, suspension. I know a lot of people are in to lifting them, but what are your guys' recommendations? Again, ive read a lot of good threads, but the kits being sold are quite expensive. Anybody ever build their own lift kit? I have access to any fabrication tools necessary, and I know how to use them.

Another thing that I am wondering, is do they make a conversion (or could I build my own), to get away from the 4 bolt lugs on the wheels, to a 5? I have a set of custom Kubota wheels and tires that I would like to use.

Ive been a part of numerous forums in the past, and I know the new guys are sometimes ignored. But I assure you, I am not some dummy. I am serious about this, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome Justin. If you check the fabrication forum you can see what some guys have done to build their on lift kits. Some guys I have seen use parts from quad suspensions. If the lift is just for show you can usually find a reasonable a arm lift combo at the site sponsors I got my last lift from Jason's carts and was pleased. The electronic components are probably the only thing you can't fab yourself but luckily the is the almighty Scotty b for that. Ask yourself how fast you think you want to go before upgrading the electric components then go the next step higher. Have fun! Oh you can run the radio and lights off a 48 volt reducer or a seperate 12 volt battery in the bag well

Thanks guys, I've been reading up on the home made lifts, and thinking that's the way I'm going to go. The ''Z'' type front lift looks easy, but some specific specs and pics would be nice. Also, any advice for lifting the rear? There's so many posts it'll take me forever to read thru all of them on the limited internet time I get.. I'm wanting to put 25" tires on, so I'm thinking 6"s of lift should be sufficient. Also, as far as location, I am in eastern WA state (Tri-Cities). Still looking for batteries as well.

The rear you can lower the whole axle get bigger u bolts and put blocks in.

I like the look of the spindle lift better than the Z lift. A arms are supposed to ride smoothie but havnt experienced it. The back is easy just block the springs up.

Anybody else have any input? Looking around and seeing how relatively inexpensive some lift kits are, what would you recommend? I'd like to go 6", but I want to keep a somewhat tight turning radius, as well as a somewhat smooth ride. So spindle or A arms? Long travel just isn't for me.. I've looked at hundreds of posts on here now, but most are on other than Club Cars.. Also, what kind of braking or steering upgrades/modifications am I going to need (if any). Also, still looking for a good deal on batteries... Thanks again

As long as you don't go crazy with a speed motor, your stock brakes should do fine as long as they're in good condition and working properly. There are mechanical and hydraulic disc brake upgrades available though. Steering on a CC usually doesn't need upgraded, just replace anything worn (tie rod ends and bushings are the normal wear stuff).

On choice of lift - Allsports A arm lifts are said to be best by many, they are solid in construction and the instructions are said to be great. I myself used a 6" A arm "economy kit" that several cart places carry - it is alright but some modifications had to be made to make it a more usable lift on my cart. I had to take the short leaf out of all the springs due to extreme stiffness, modify the top shock mount slightly, and buy all new bushings for the connector bolts between the A arm and spring on the front to replace the crappy factory ones.
