Cart Jumps and Jerks
1998 CC DS Powerdrive 48 volt: When first starting driving on street it jumps and jerks. Not terrible but noticeable. After a few minutes of driving it levels out. Everything is then OK for about 20-30 minutes. The cart then starts loosing power really fast like batteries loosing their charge but faster. You can then pull over, cut it off and let it cool a few minutes. It will then run a few more minutes and it seems to correlate with the amount of cooling time as to how long it will run. I recently put a new F&R switch replacing a faulty one.
I am pretty mechanical minded but electrical matters create quite a challenge for me. Any help (in laymen terms please) would be appreciated. Gary |

Re: Cart Jumps and Jerks
Sounds like the controller is going into thermal shut down, the controller is getting to hot so it's shutting down on you. After a period of time the controller will be damaged for good, if it's not all ready damaged.

Re: Cart Jumps and Jerks
Is there anything I can do other than replace the controller. What does the controller cost and where is it located?

Re: Cart Jumps and Jerks
Controllers get pretty costly when you are talking 500amps but for a factory 250amp controller you should be able to find one on ebay, or even this site for around $150 or so. Post a want add in the for sale section I'm sure someone will have a controller. Almost every one on this site upgrades to a higher controller so I'm sure you will find one. It should be located in the battery compartment or behind the tow run switch panel.

Re: Cart Jumps and Jerks
You might want to investigate why your controller is going into thermal shutdown (if it is) before you buy a new one. It could possibly be something as simply as the brakes dragging or a loose or dirty connection. I'd want to be sure or at least 90% sure before I spent the money for a controller.
