Here's my guess: there are two 12v wires and two 36v wires. The backlight is 12v and should be hooked to the light kit so it comes on with the lights. Do you have lights on your cart?

This is a project cart no lights But I maybe adding some

What you are getting at is have a seperate 12v source that powers the meter in order to show the voltage?

haven't gone there yet... may do that

yea thats what it is you need 12v to run meter and 36v measured

red & black to 12v power
white & black to 36v pack

So you have to either have a reducer or use 2 batts to get the 12 volts...
I guess the draw is miniscule, so it shouldn't create an imbalance.

yea.. thats the thing with these meters 12v power ... then the other thing is shutting them off with key i have used a switch due to the 12v power

I used this one, easy and yes I tapped into the key switch, they don't draw enough power to even consider lol.
