LED digital volt meter hook up
I bought a 0 -100 Volt digital volt meter...
Golf Cart Digital Voltage Meter 0-100 volt battery Gauge. 4 wires on the back, Red, Black, Black, White. After experimenting (no instructions) I wired the black and red to a 12 volt source and it glowed to life... then I connected the white to Pos and the Black to ground of a battery and it shows the voltage... perfect! So real simple... have a 36 volt DS... connect 12 volts from the batteries to the meter (red & black). Then run the white to the posi lead of the 36v pack and black to neg. Nope, don't work that way. as soon as I connect the white to the power pack it glows 12.7 volts and will not sow pack voltage when I connect the neg.? Has anyone bought and installed one of these? If so, how did you hook it up? thanx in advance -=Fred=- |

Re: LED digital volt meter hook up
You have to use a separate supply voltage from the reference voltage. In your post it appears you are tapping two batteries (12v) then the entire pack for the 36v. Use a 9v battery as the supply and try it.

I thought you weren't suppose to ground to the frame?

Re: LED digital volt meter hook up
This meter requires 12v to operate and the other two for measurement right? I think that is strange.

Re: LED digital volt meter hook up
Don't ground to the frame. And by 9v I mean one that fits in the smoke alarm; which you might need if you ground to the frame.

Re: LED digital volt meter hook up
Yes I tried powering it up with a 9 volt smoke detector battery and it doesn't work... need 12v minimum .... and yes 12v to power and the black and white wire for measurement.

Re: LED digital volt meter hook up
my bad. my gas is grounded to frame. But you should find the two posts that get 36v. I think one should go to ignition switch and one to F/R switch, If I'm not mistaken.
You know, I've installed a few of these LED electronic state of charge indicators and everyone only had three terminals. One to switched power on ignition and two to the batteries. What is the purpose of the 4th wire? |

Re: LED digital volt meter hook up
I would send it back and get a 2 wire one that runs off the pack voltage......
