Battery terminal corrosion

I just replaced all my 6
volt batteries, I am noticing one of the batteries is getting corroded on its terminal, I cleaned it off and it returned? any idea? Also should I have replaced cables when I changed out batteries?

the corrosion you are seeing is caused from batteries "gassing" while charging .. best to re clean all cables & posts , then coat cable ends and nuts with ether Vaseline or a battery post spray after reinstalling them

rule of thumb , change cables with new batteries

Vaseline is a insulator. It may cause problems like a bad connection.

My preference when working in the battery boxes here at work is to make the point of connection bright and shiny with a wire brush or very fine emery and wash area with parts cleaner. Make connection clean and dry and then apply a light coat of Vaseline.

We used to use it on x-ray tube high voltage cables. It had to insulate 150KV. In later years we switched to silicone grease. But if it works for you, use it. Do you apply it to the conductive surface?

Seems pretty clear to me... "Make connection clean and dry and then apply a light coat of Vaseline."

Ok I get it now. You are not slathering the entire terminal you are using it as a vapor barrier. That was the reason I asked if you applied it to the conductive surface.
