Are Resistor Coil stand-off bolts necessary
I'm rehabbing a 95 Club Car DS (36 volt) and it came with a couple of the Resistor Coil bolts broken off. All are terribly rusted. I'd like to replace them, but everywhere seems to charge a lot for specific Resistor bolts ($10-11 each). Are they really necessary, or could I just use Stainless bolts and washers? Are the resistor bolts an important part resistor assembly, or is all the work done by the coils?
Thanks. |

Re: Are Resistor Coil stand-off bolts necessary
Never really thought about it but dang, they are expensive!!! They do have the flange to hold the coils in place but i see no reason why it couldn't be done with bolts ,nuts and flat washers.....but you'll probably need to bend the washers to make them hold as the coils may slip out when they heat up...
Edit:...some coils have have a loop on the end and some are just straight wire...... |

Re: Are Resistor Coil stand-off bolts necessary
That's exactly what I did - bent some SS washers to hold the straight coils close to the bolt. Problem is the coils are getting pretty hot when I put a meter across the resistance board, it's a little higher (.12 ohms) than the service manual recommends (.9 ohms). I don't know if this is a problem.

Maybe the stainless is a problem ?
