At full throttle I'd bet it'd be close to the same, the real test would be side by side at half throttle and see which one dies first. That would give a good measurable number on energy consumption of the coils vs. the controller.

And no doubt coils are way cheaper, resistor carts take the prize in that area. But, unless you're beating the ever loving crap out of it, the controller shouldn't need replaced for a very long time.

I do have kids that like to drive it so slow is a must. , , and no it's not stock. It's does have the scottyb upgrade, increased to 48 v and hi speed d and d. , so slow is a must...... At times!
