DIY CC 48v motor repair/rebuild?
Hi All,
I was able to remove the CC motor ... I was told the brushes were bad and I want to rebuild it. I have a 48v system. I can supply motor part # if needed. I was going to get the Bandit from PQ.... but I think I'll use the $$ to rebuild the motor and paint the cart. Can anyone point me in the direction of how I would go about replacing the brushes and what I would need to do to rebuild the motor?? Thanks !! |

You should inspect the brush holder real well if any of the brush guides are loose it will need to be replaced. This causes a clicking noise because the motor is out of time.

Ok so I have taken apart my CC 48v motor and here are some pics....
The 4 brushes look like Ruffles....and there is a lip at the bottom of 3 of them ( I assume this is bad....I will replace them.) The core has a shine area and a dull area..( core spinning out of time? unbalanced? ) Any advise on this? What am I looking at? Thanks!!! |

Junk that came out of motor...dust and flakes another of the core (with flash so you cant see dull vrs shine) another of one of the brushes... Thanks!!! |

I would use emery cloth on the brushes back to smooth at the same radius of commutator (i think that's what it is) that's what I did to one of my motors. Mine was full of dust as well and just performed a thorough cleaning. my problem with motor was siezure due to end bearing. I replaced it, cleaned and put it back in. If you are going to replace brushes then just seek a site sponsor.

When you're this far into the motor, I'd just replace the brushes and toss the old ones in the trash. I'd also put in a new bearing.
