97 club car shackle bushings

Just got this cart and the rear leaf springs rubber bushings are shot.
My question is how do you get the upper shackle bracket bushing bolt out.
Do you remove the rear body or cut a round hole with a hole saw to gain access to the bolt to remove it.I guess you could cut the bolt with a sawsall
and put it back in opposite from original with the head of the bolt on the outside facing toward the inside.But I was wondering what was the most popular approach is as I don't have a service manual.

yea , that's a problem .. move rear body up is the way i've done it , take out the rear body bolts (4) then lift body about 2" its all you need to get bolt out i put a 2x4 between frame and body so i could work on it

Your experiences may vary, but I've found that even in the nastiest of worn bushing cases, the upper shackle bushings on the rear are never very worn. I once even used those particular bushings off of several parts carts I had to re-bush another cart.

You are just touching the tip of the Ice Burg you might say. When ever I've done them you want to replace them all and the ones on the front portion of the rear springs are real bugers . I have had to cut them and use air hammer to get studs out they can be a real pain if you do this please reinstall with a never seize compound. Joe100

I took the easy way out and drilled a access hole to get to the bolt & bushings.
Used a hole saw after I carefully measured to make sure the floor cover would hide the hole. Success! BTW All the rubber bushings were gone.

Reminds me of the Muscle Car days. Had to drill a hole in the fender well to change a spark plug. Showing my age.

Or drilling a hole in the firewall to get to freeze plug in the back of a head ...lol!!

Maybe get some plug covers to fill the holes . I have used these guys. Good service.

I would if the holes were exposed, but the floor cover hides them well enough as you can see in the photos.;)
