Default New to carts have a few questions performance wise

Hi guys new to the forum and just had some questions I couldn't quite pin point around the forum I just purchased a 1996 club car DSII(I think)and I want to get some speed out of it I'm a young punk that has to mod everything I get my hands on lol. I want to know if I can build my own cables out of 1/0 or would you recommend 4/0 my hopes for this cart are 35+MPH I was looking into the plum quick motors and the assassin caught my eye. Also the batteries are about 4+ yrs old and I clocked the cart at 10 mph which doesn't hold a charge very long I am sure new batteries are due. Can I run blems or would you recommend the high $$$ batteries? Thanks for your input!

Welcome to BGW. Is your cart a series cart? Please post serial number.

My series 33+ mph cart was very expensive to obtain. New motor, new controller, 2ga battery cables, good pack of batteries, HD switch, HD Solenoid, lift with 23" tires (~ $3k). If you can live with 22-23 mph it is much more affordable.

Also there are site sponsors that can help you build a roadmap to success. ScottyB (Carts Unlimited) was VERY helpful when I was building...

BTW - a 35 mph cart is scary fast, 25 mph is much better. I have a speed reducer on my cart.

I spent a lot of money on my last cart to get it to run 30+ MPH only to find out that carts are just not made to run that fast. Every time I got to around 30 MPH, the cart would start swaying back and forth. In my book, 25 MPH is the speed limit on a cart. Save yourself some money and be happy with that speed.

Large cables will flow current better and plum quick builds great motors. I would buy the best batteries you can afford. Not sure if yours is a controller cart or not but I have an alltrax in mine and it has worked great for 8 years.

Thank you for the fast responses! I am not sure if it is a series I will check serial# when I get home, and I can live with 25 mph no problem I mainly plan on using it when I go camping which have slow limits anyways. So you would recommend 2 ga. wire? So at 25 mph could I send the motor to be rehauled by plum quick? I saw his bandit build and I didn't think there woulda been too much involved in getting a higher speed assumed it was just a controller and bigger cables lol. Thanks again for the feedback. If you were in my position what would your preferred builds be? Not looking to break the bank just want more umph I was jogging faster than this cart was wide open. Didn't seem right.

Don't buy rigid 2/0 cables at the big box stores. Be sure they are flexible welding cables or battery cables.

I was on eBay looking at making my own cables with 1ga. Battery cables. But if there is a kit you would recommend over doing that I will look into it. I need to buy batteries for it do you know the group number by chance?but
