Shipping a Motor

I am getting ready to ship my motor to PQ for their upgrade. Not sure how to pack the motor for shipping. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just brought mine to UPS and they packed and shipped. Cost me $14 if I remember right for packing and shipping was around $45. I live in New England.

When I received it back... it was in there purple box with tons of paper and cardboard especially made to keep the spline and electrical wire protected from being damaged.

See if it will fit in a USPS flat rate box , would be WAY cheaper....

Great Idea!
However, I am not sure I would trust the USPS to get it there safely and still in an intact box!
UPS sounds like a better idea. Cost is not my primary concern.

These motor are heavy USPS has limits, so check it out first. UPS works well, just package heavy protect it well.

if it fits , it ships .....unless its more than 70 pounds....

It does not fit in the one rate boxes I tried.

I got a HD box from Uhaul 12 x 12 x 18. I cut heavy styrofoam for ends & sides. I wrapped motor in small bubble, bubble wrap and made extra cardboard protection around lugs.

I shipped UPS. Cost $38 to ship.

Also I have heard about folks getting the motor company to ship an empty motor box. These usually had a molded blown in foam packing.

I would recommend checking with fed ex also. I have recently learned that fed ex is way cheaper than ups for shipping larger packages. Ie, I've been shipping 1/5 scale rc cars, they weigh around 35 pounds, in a box that measures 30x24x18 inches, ups was costing me around $55.00 fed ex was $22.00

That is a BIG difference! The motor weighs about 48# before packing materials, so it is in the ballpark of your experience.
