Default OBC issues

I have a fleet of 2007 precedents. All with the same type of batteries. Batteries are ok but not great. Still hold up for 27 holes on a charge. Well over the last 3 months I have replaced 12 OBC's on these carts. There has been nothing weird happen, no crazy lightning storms etc. All the chargers work as they should. My question is can I be causing these to fail somehow? Or is it fate since they were all purchased the same exact time? Which seems crazy to me. I'm just being asked questions by the big boss and I keep saying it's just that time. Am I wrong? Club car here in Memphis TN says it sounds crazy and had no idea.

That was another recent thread about OBC problems from carts close to that time frame.
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...bc-issues.html

How exactly are those OBC failing?

Is it just no longer activating the charger relay but still allowing the cart to operate?

If so, does the OBC allows current to flow if you by-pass the relay in the charger?

So far they all failed as in will not let the cart charge but cart still operable. Only had one fail in the closed position I think it's called, soon as cord plugged in cart charger would click instantly. Also I haven't bypassed the charger relay in any of them so I don't know. I have 5 more to repair tomorrow. I can try it then and get back with you

I just read the thread. I thought the same about the diode being shot and the chargers from looking at them while charging seem to work as designed. I am no pro by any means. Just seems strange to me and costing the club alot of money. I also tried the obc reset and still nothing on every cart. Blows severely.

The problem is that if the suppression diode failed open, every time the OBC turns the charger relay OFF, there will be a voltage spike sent thru the sense wire and it can easily damage the OBC.
The powerdrive3 chargers now have a resistor in the relay board as well, but the powerdrive and powerdrive2 only have the diode.

If you know what charger was last used in a cart that now has a bad OBC, test the suppression diode on that charger.

Any idea where this diode is? And the readings?

Is this the lil square diode thing with 4 prongs?

That is the bridge rectifier, those diodes are the ones responsible to convert AC into DC current.

The suppression diode is in parallel with the relay coil.

You need to disconnect the small .187 spade connectors from the relay and test the diode that is in between them.

Set you meter to the "diode" function if available, or just continuity if not.

Place the probes in each of the spade connectors (does not matter the position), then reverse the connections and measure again.

You should get a good diode test or low resistance in one position and a bad diode or open connection in the other position.

Is this diode in a red wire connected to a blue and white on the relay? I can't figure out to post a pic or I would. Do I just replace the wire set from relay to ammeter and DC cord? Has a white covering on it.

That is it, but there is no need to replace it unless is bad.
