A 48 volt charger will kill 36 Volt batteries because it will never shut off. It's trying to charge to well over 48V and the 36V batteries will obviously never get there!

I think I may have found the problem. The charger is a 48v with the round plug the golf cart also has the round plug from some looking around it does not look like the 1999 club car ds 36 v has a round plug. I think they put 6 volt batteries in a 48 volt cart. At least that's what I think as u can tell I am no expert on these..

Six volt batteries got 3 fill holes on top. 8 Volt got 4 holes.
