First we need to know what you have. Do you have a V-glide and resistors or is it a 5 solenoid cart?

Tom I'm gonna have to give a different opinion. It is unconventional but, you can easily put 48 volts in that cart and she will fly up and down hills!
......with resistors coils installed

I`m going to have to agree with Scottyb. I put 6 8volts batteries in my 84. Did nothing else. She does 18MPH (gps) and will all but break the standard tires loose. I do have to replace a solenoid every year or so but thats it so far. And I run her HARD. I have since lifted and put 22" tires on it.

He has a resistor cart. I have run one for over a year stock 36v with 48v in it and 20" trailwolfs. She spins the tires and climbs anything. GPS 20mph. Granted run times are not as long as a controller set up...but it costs a heck of a lot less. I recommend this cart for a cheap conversion and fun project.
Change the solenoid to 48v for safety.....

Ran my 90 on 48 volts and resistors for a couple years, worked great, never a problem. Made it a fun cart to drive. If you have to buy batteries anyway, why not upgrade. All you would need is a charger and a 48 volt solenoid. You could add the pot box and controller later, nice to have but not neccessary.

sorry guys i should have thought before i posted..........when i say limited i meant you can,t do it on the cheap you can but depending on what you want to accomplish most guys don,t want to put that kind of money in........even just a set of batteries your at 400.00 right off the batt and than the charger..........and if you start talking switching to a controller well you get the idea...........but you guys are right there are some things you can do but its limited unless you go all out...................................

You could also contact "Electrical Motor Products, Inc" and they will redesign your 36v motor to run 20MPH for about $250 plus shipping.. Then if you want more power down the road, change over to 48v batteries and just keep a spare resistor or two handy..

You are right Tom, sometimes I forget what it would cost the average owner.
