Will Speed Code affect torque?

Hi there. A few months ago I set out to speed up my 2010 Electric XL Club Cart. Cart was running speed code 3, and has Speed code 4 codes. This meant it was doing about 14mph max.

Spoke to the guys at PQ who sorted me out with an Executioner motor, new wiring and solenoid, plus a Flight Systems controller (which comes with a conversion harness to switch from XL to IQ).

The wiring, solenoid an motor are successfully installed and the cart is significantly faster on the flats and up the hills.

The controller, however, simply won't work. I have spoken to PQ (who are really helpful BTW) and even the guys at Flight Systems (who were also really helpful), and have checked, rechecked and triple rechecked EVERYTHING, but it just doesn't work. I'm overseas in Hong Kong and after nearly a week of trying was left with no option but to give up.

Having said this, I am delighted with the difference that the Executioner has made already.

I live in a fairly hilly area and my question is whether getting the local Club Car guys to come out and adjust my stock controller from Speed Code 3 to Speed Code 4 will affect the stock controller's torque and help me up those hills. Max speed is not so much of an issue as for some reason the speed limiter doesn't seem to limit the top speed of the Executioner.

I am also aware that someone is developing a Speed Code 5e device for the Club Car XL which allegedly will affect torque. Based on a website enquiry this isn't anywhere near completion, but does any one know of anything similar?

Any time you add speed you loose torque, unless you up grade the controller to a higher amp controller than it give you the torque back. So yes you will loose torque.

I know you said torque, but you probably meant horse power which can be loosely defined as torque x rpm.

Since we don't have gears to switch in our carts, You need both a motor that can develop torque at a high rpm and a good controller that can provide the needed amperage.

Do you still have the FSIP controller? was the problem with the throttle?

The cart just wouldn't power up with the new FSIP controller. The instructions are clear and there are only a limited number of things to connect and I checked checked and checked that all was all done correctly and checked continuity of all connections. I think there are often issues moving from excel to iq even with supposedly the right conversion kits.

But my question is simply whether changing the speed code on the stock controller with affect anything other than the speed limiter. Will I get more power by getting speed code 4 programmed? I already have the codes so it's just the price of a club car guy coming out to program the codes into the controller.

Currently, the speed limiter is not cutting in (it cut in at around 14 mph with the stock motor), so it is only going to be worthwhile moving to speed code 4 if I get more power. Basically, will speed code 4 get my up the hills faster?

I don't see any change in torque with mine. One thing you might get over some small hill with extra speed a little better. Kind of like trucks building up a head of steam to cross a hill on the highway.

Speed code limits speed so changing it doesn't change torque. Torque == AMPS given a fixed battery voltage.

The speed codes are for the governor settings. With the PQ motor and speed code 3 your new top speed will be 21mph. If you go to SC 4 your new limited speed will be 29mph with no increase in power or torque. With a automobile to get more power you don't say I need more torque. You say I need more horsepower. Torque is to get you rolling and up to speed or through the intersection w/o getting run over. So I think for more speed on hills you need more horsepower. Think about a 5hp motor!
