Think my motor is dying???

I've got an old club car (89 frame and body) with with the newer rear end (don't know if it's a kawi or giazmo gotta look still) a high torque motor and a 700 amp controller. When accelerating the rear won't make any noise but when i go full speed then bring the pedal back to half the rear will rattle and groan as it slows. This also happens when going down hills and the cart starts moving faster then the motor. i figured it was a commutator bearing until the other day. I hit the gas and the cart wouldn't move. I could hear it spinning but nothing going . I take my foot off the pedal and try again and the cart moves and has been fine since. Anyone have an idea for this one? Don't want to just start tearing into the rear with out an idea where to look. Thanks!

It is probably not the motor but something else that is damaged in the drive train. Might be a stripped hub.

sounds like a classic centering gizmo between the motor and rear.

What would be a stripped hub on a club car? I'm fimaliar with that happening on ezgos since they have a drive shaft that actually spins the drums but club car rears are a different design then ezgo. Could you explain please?

I don't think it would be the centering thing people talk about since something actually disengaged and will allowed the motor and possibly something else in the rear spin freely. After stopping and trying again it engaged and went.

Here is a different point of view. Take it for what its worth. That's going to be the last sound you hear as your motor locks up because of over revving and you fly through the windshield. My 2 cents.

Haha to bad it doesn't have a windshield! Shouldn't be over revving it's not an after market motor built for this purpose. It sounds great when accelerating and at full speed it's only when i let off. so i don't see over reving being the issue.

The noise on deceleration and at constant speed is most always indicative of a bad nylon guide ring, but I'm not sure about how that could be since I think those are on 48 volt motors only...

Here's something to try - pull the fill plug from the rear end, and then stick a pan under it and pull the drain plug. See if there's any shiny metal bits in the rear end oil. Have some new rear end oil ready to put back in.

since you don't know what rear end you have it may be an ezgo rear

93yellow club it's been upgraded to a 48volt cart. Where is the nylon guide ring located motor or rear? thanks.
