Your right in that the motor should only draw just so much but I would think that a larger controller might yet allow the motor to overheat and damage itself in heavy load or uphill situations that the smaller controller would have limited...

Yes, the amount of current it draws when not under heavy loads is like 50 amps or so for stock motors, it will only draw higher for short periods and not so much to damage unless you stall it or try to climb a 90 degree hill loaded down with lots of weight. LOL

That's why I need a bigger controller as I can stall my PQE motor in my own yard and I can't make it up some roads in our HOA.... LOL
