Angry vglide melted??! Help!

So I'm driving my son around like normal and the go pedal is stuck. I think it's a stick or something stuck in the spring so I backed to flat ground. Look under it and no stick. Open the hood and the v glide is smoking. I puke the cover off and the press the pedal.. The copper piece that runs up the vglide is stuck at the bottom and only a piece of plastic is running up n down the thing.

Wtf? Any ideas why? Help! !!

You were going uphill I assume from the way you worded the post. Were you going forward when it melted? Was the pedal all the way down?

Yes. Up hill. Not really all the way down power say. On and off. Stopped to look over valley and when I went to go it would move and that's when I noticed it was stuck about 3/4 down

And not like I was hill climbing it. Just a grade around the south side of the property that we always go around.

You need to thouroughly inspect the v glide contacts to make sure they did not get super heated and melt the v glide. You would see melted plastic built up around a contact. If so, you need a new v glide with contacts. Probably the wiper arm and wiper contact too. You have the micro, rubber rest pad etc from your current unit. Proper aligmnent of wiper contact to v glide contacts is key...nice and flat on all contacts.. At WOT, wiper arm clears 7th contact and only covers top contact. Remove the two driver side batts for better access. Maybe the drver middle, too. (#'s 4, 5 & 6).

Sorry it took so long to respond, x2 on what scotter said. Going part throttle on flat ground heats things up, but on an uphill grade it really puts strain of a lot of heat on your V-glide.

No worries 93. OK. So only part throttle heats up the vglide huh? Especially up hill... Well that's what was happening. I wasn't going wot up the hill. I was going slow and looking over the edge. Parked it halfway up and throttle was stuck. As soon as I can I'll get things pulled and get a look at it. Thanks guys

In case you're wondering the reason behind full throttle running cooler - it's because at full throttle the voltage is dumped straight to the motor for top speed. At part throttle the resistors, which make a buttload of heat and burn off excess energy so the motor spins slower, paired with the motor spinning slowly and demanding a bunch of amps, can get the Vglide into meltdown mode. Part throttle is fine to use, but for long periods of time or when going uphill it is generally a no-no. I found that slight changes to your driving habits to accommodate those weaknesses can lead to a long and healthy V-glide life.
