Charger will not start automatically

Charger will not start but can be bypassed and it then charges OK. The amps drawn reduce normally as charging. Don't know if it will turn off at full charge. Haven't let it go that long for fear of damage. Would the solonoid or the OBC cause this problem? Can the OBC be reset? How?

We need to know the voltage reading on the pack to answer those Qs....OBC cannot be 'reset'. It is either GD or NG....

if its a 48 volt cart between 95 and 97 chances are its a OBC went bad.........vave tou taken voltage readings to make sure voltage is above low voltage sensor? if batteries and cables and voltage check out......than lift seat and pull that grey wire if it stays put in charge receptical than its OBC time.........................................

yeah, that grey wire coming out of the charge receptical they will rot inside where you can,t see it and cause that problem and if thats the case when you give it a pull it will come out of the receptical i have had this happen several times over the years.......not alot but it happens if so you can just replace that wire and your good to go but if the wire is in there solid than its more than likely OBC....................don,t worry when you do enough of them you,ll know what i,m talking about.....................................

Check and make sure all recepticals for the plug are clean, a little dirt will keep the charger from comming on. Use a good contact cleaner in them, and see if the charger comes on, my 95 had this problem.

Thanks for your input.

It is a 1996 48V cart. It had been sitting for about 5 years when I got it recently so I replaced the batteries and cables. Don't know if the charging worked right prreviously.
I took a reading across the batteries after force charging the batteries and it read 51 volts. I ran the cart for several days and then tried to charge it without bypassing the charger. No go.
Can the OBC be tested to verify it is good or bad?

I checked the grey wire you spoke of and it seems to be solid. I did a continuity test on the wire and it is good. I feel very stupid tho in that the in line fuse had blown. (3/8th anp) I replaced it and tried the charger without any luck. The batteries right now read 50.6 Volts so it may just be that it doesn't need charging right now. I'll use it a few days and then try it again.

try running a jumper wire from the solenoid small post with yellow wire jump from there to neg. terminal omn #6 battery thats the battery on drivers side rear run that jumper and see if charger comes on if it does replace the OBC and you should be fine.,............................................ ..

I did the jumper and it didn't turn on.
I also tested the grey wire from the plug to the OBC. It is good all the way. Any other hopes for me?

joe i,m sorry i messed up when you jump the solenoid to the #6 battery the cart will run if it wouldn,t before hand and has nothing to do with charging my bad......... heres my take its a 96 with a red dash light right? and you can bypass the relay in the charger and it will charge.........your OBC is bad if i were doing this for a customer i wouldn,t hesitate to tell them they need an OBC so get yourself an OBC kit it comes with a few extras like an updated orange battery dash light and a new grey wire and hardwhere if needed.....very very common problem on your cart thats why they redesigned and upgraded the OBC like 3 times.......good news is you,ll get the latest version of it ( the OBC ) and you shouldn,t have any more charging issues at all................just make sure you undo the bypass in the charger so it will shut off when pack is charged because if you leave it bypassed the charger will never shut off..............so replace tour OBC and your done.......................sorry for the mis-information.....................................
