Bad charger or bad something else?
Hi All,
Before posting this, I've read message boards for 3 straight days, and even called a cart place for help....still no joy. I'm hoping to get some much needed help on this...it's driving me crazy! Problem: Charger will not come on. Although I do hear a "click" from the charger after approx 3-4 seconds after plugging in the cart, the charger itself does nothing. As a matter of fact, the "click" from the charger happens even when the charger is disconnected from the 120v ac wall. I've already tried another working charger, and it also failed to turn on, which makes me think something is wrong with my cart. I've reset the OBC, taken apart the charger and jumped the relay, jumped across the gray fuse directly to the neg terminal.....I don't know what else to try at this point. Specs: 1999 CC DS Electric 48-V Charger: PowerDrive Pack Voltage: 47.3 volts All cables are new and tightened to 11lbs All NEW batteries - April 2014 Thanks in advance for any help on this issue... Cheers, Josh |

Re: Bad charger or bad something else?
This will sound a bit odd - but it almost sounds as if the wires between the positive or negative posts of the battery pack and the charging receptacle aren't connected or are broken. Did you measure your voltage inside the charging receptacle on the cart?

Re: Bad charger or bad something else?
I'll try anything at this point...when you say "measure your voltage inside the charging receptacle on the cart?"...how would I do that?
I forgot to mention that the cart runs fine...forward and reverse...no issues at all. But the amber light on the dash is coming on/off so I'm trying to top the cart off with a good charge. Is it plausible that the batteries haven't lost enough juice to get the charger to come on? |

Re: Bad charger or bad something else?
If the charger is clicking it is getting dc voltage from the cart to operate the relay. I know this may sound silly but check the AC outlet and make sure you have voltage there. If so then you may have a bad diode or fuse inside the charger.

Re: Bad charger or bad something else?
the click should be heard with the ac plugged in or unplugged
it is tell the charger it is plugged in and ready for power |

Re: Bad charger or bad something else?
Nothing is silly to me...Lord knows I've overlooked the obvious more times than I can count :)
I plugged a drill into the ac outlet to make sure there was power...gtg there. I was going down the road of the problem being the heat sink (powerdrive 1), but when i remembered that the other charger didn't work either...I figured it must be the buggy and not the charger. Is this a bad assumption? |

Re: Bad charger or bad something else?
it is getting click to both chrgers ... you did OBC reset ... only thing i can think is the gray wire is bad from fuse to charger .. do a continuity test of wire , also check fuse
what is your pack voltage ? |

Re: Bad charger or bad something else?
Would be good if you could find another cart to try your charger on.

Re: Bad charger or bad something else?
And try a known good charger on your cart - some shops will let you borrow or rent one. Your pack really needs charged, 47 volts is way low!
Crap! Never mind, I see you tried that. I gotta quit skimming posts!! |
