Newbie looking for a wiring double check
Hey guys, I recently bought a Club Car Precedent that was used and am looking to add some aux gear to it. I have done quite a bit of reading, but I wanted to lay out my plan and get you guys to double check me so I do not blow anything up.
First off, it is a 4X12V battery setup that I am going to connect to a 48V-12V reducer. I recently got new batteries in the cart and when I did I pre installed cable to connect the reducer to the main positive and negative leads from the battery chain. From the 12V end of the reducer I plan to run to a marine grade fuse block like this one (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Marine-Grade...item27e731920d) and then I can connect my additional items from there. Items include a horn, accessory power outlet and a radio. The horn and accessory outlet are easy as they are straight wired to the fuse block. Is there any reason why I should or should not put a switch BEFORE the fuse block? The radio is where I am having some wiring trouble as I am not sure what wires to connect. There are 3 power wires from the radio (Switched ignition, power and illumination) and I am not sure which ones I have to connect up to the fuse block. What I was thinking was that I would simply connect all 3 wires to the reducer and wire an inline switch on the switched ignition wire. Can anyone look at this and see if what I am doing sounds right or if I am off base? Thanks in advance gang! |

Sounds like you are planning on wiring the reducer, so it is on all the time?
I had a cart that the reducer was hot all the time, and it would run the batteries down, from just sitting for awhile. I would wire the reducer feed ( 48 v) to be activated by the key switch. But then you would need to run a individual 12 volt wire from the battery, to the radio memory. |

Re: Newbie looking for a wiring double check
Unfortunately, I already bought my reducer and it does not have the wire like your diagram shows. It has 48V In and 12V out. Is the reducer running with nothing else on really going to drain my batteries that much?

Re: Newbie looking for a wiring double check
So in your picture is there a wire coming from the battery to the reducer AND a wire coming from the hot side of the ignition? Or are you on saying just wire in the reducer post ignition switch?

Re: Newbie looking for a wiring double check
as long as your key switch is a 48V switch. Then yes you can wire it to the key switch. you can test your key switch with a volt meter. when you turn the key on you should have 48volts arcoss the switch. the factory key switches are 48volts.
