5 AMP Battery Charger
Hello everyone! I am new to the world of golf carts and am currently fixing up a 1983 Club Car DS Electric golf cart. The charger that came with it is an old school Lester Matic that at one point in time had a timer but looks like that has been removed and a metal plate is covering the hole where the timer dial would go. I know nothing about this charger that came with it but I do know I don't want an old charger to fry the new batteries I just bought.
Looking on Ebay I found a DUAL VOLTAGE 110V-220V INPUT 5 AMPS charger for $115.00. Is anyone familiar with this charger and would it be safe to use? Am I correct in thinking that the 5 amps just means that it will charge slower? I attached a picture of this charger and a link to it on ebay. I will be using my cart at a campground and plugging it in at night to charge. Thanks you for your help! http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-36-Volt-...#ht_5186wt_932 |

Re: 5 AMP Battery Charger
Much , much slower.......a full charge can take 16 hours with a real charger (15 amps) so no telling how long at 5 amps.....

Re: 5 AMP Battery Charger
I would say most of the time you get what you pay for. I would visit ScottyB/Carts unlimited @ cartsunlimited.net and check out the DPI accusense chargers. Mine works really well.

Re: 5 AMP Battery Charger
If I HAD to buy a $100 charger I would not buy that 5A charger. I would get the Stanley charger. It's a Sam's Club item but if you search you can find it elsewhere for about the same price.

Re: 5 AMP Battery Charger
Sport Coupe is right about that Stanley charger. I bought one just to try out when I upgraded to 48 volts on my last cart. A lot of the guys poopooed it but it worked great for me. No problems ever.
