Removing axle shaft
Alright guys, Doing the disc brake upgrade on a 94 DS. ScottyB was able to help me out a little earlier via email and I found the c clips that secure the axle shaft and got them loose with some 90 degree pliers. That sucker is still hanging on for life and I can not get it to budge. Any advice on removing the thing? Thanks in advance

Re: Removing axle shaft
Have you tried a slide hammer puller?

Re: Removing axle shaft
WhOA - A slide hammer could do a lot of damage if the retaining snap ring is not removed first.
CC axles have a snap ring retainer located just inside the axle tube. You will need right angle snap ring pliers to remove them. You can see the ring through the inspection hole in the axle flange as you work the pliers from the underside of the flange. See pic of snap ring loose on the axle after removal. Once the snap ring is removed they come out with a little push/pulling on the studs. |

Re: Removing axle shaft
LOL scottyb I got the snap ring removed. The axle shaft just seems to be acting stubborn I'm sorry I think I referred to it as a c clip. Sorry if I was mistaken on the terminology.

Re: Removing axle shaft
Since those are removed... slide hammer..? or is there something other than the snap rings holding the axle shaft in place?

Re: Removing axle shaft
I guess I misunderstood u guys, sorry. They can get a little stuck, nothing serious. I just pull on one stud and tap the flange with small hammer... or put the brake drum on backwards with a couple nuts just on the studs so the drum can be used as a slide hammer.

Re: Removing axle shaft
Everything worked exactly as you said. The driver side was a lot of tugging and curse words (especially when trying to fit the snap rings back in) but these things work great! thanks for all the customer support
