obc kit

Can the OBC bypass kit be made rather than buying one. If so can someone tell me the steps needed to do so.
I'm new to club cars.

For what cart?

It's a 1996 ds club car. I ran the serial number, but didn't come back as a good number. Don't know why. Serial number is A9627-508328.

Ok that's a start. It's a 1996 DS. Is it a series car or a Regen car? You can tell this by looking at the F&R switch. Is it a rocker switch or a lever?

Dawg it's has a rocker switch.

Also, I've been reading a post by Patric. IN his post.He has ran a wire from the neg from the battery pack to the solenoid . He also stated the charger worked just like it should. If this is indeed the case. I sure would like to do it to my cart. If this will work, will you please comment on what or how I can do it.
Need lots of help on club cart.

You've got the old Regen1 system. Don't even attempt it. That computer isn't like the new ones with the simple plugs. It's wired into the car in several different places and to be perfectly honest I wouldn't know where to start when it comes to removing the OBC from a Regen1. The procedure you read about was on a series car with a rocker switch. It's a totally different animal.

Thanks for the info. I have been reading a post by Dustinboyd started on the 3/19/14 It is still an active post on first or second page of the forum. IF you would, please read this and see if my problem and cart are the same kind as they are talking about. It sounds just like the one I have,but not sure. I may be in brain over load. I do know mine is 1996 club car,48 volt with a rocker switch for forward and reverse. Has one solenoid and a controller with hook up on each end. The cart will run, but to get to charger relay to click and charger to start I must reset the obc .. If I unplug the charger from the cart or AC power it will not come back on without taking the neg cable off. I have read so much trying not to spend a lot of money on this cart. I'm totally lost on what's my best way out.
Sorry for a long post. Just need to know what is best and cheapest way to get it charging.

. . if you want an inexpensive "fix", why not install a knife switch on the negative battery terminal . . . this way you can disconnect the pack without using a wrench to reset the system . . .

My comments will assume the failing OBC is not preventing your cart from running without disconnecting and reconnecting...right? If it helps, I have a Regen 1 - although my OBC still works fine. For storage reasons, I have run separate wires to the battery pack and use a Battery Minder (DPI type charger) and have mounted a separate charger socket to recharge it - which I use frequently. The OBC has been completely unaffected with the addition of the separate charging socket.

I have not attempted to remove the OBC, because I still use the OEM charger from time to time. There are a number of very good DPI chargers available (especially the one offered by Scotty B). It will maintain your batteries better than the old OBC ever would, and eliminate the hassle.
