Full speed ahead
Wife bought a 1989 36V Club Car yesterday. I took it out of the trailer and two things struck me as odd, in forward or reverse without depressing pedal very far the cart snaps your head. In addition when it engages there is a clunk in the rear of the cart kinda feels like a bad u joint in a car. Never had a cart before and am totally lost. I guess lastly lights all need new bulbs only one tail light works, where is the best place to look for parts?

Re: Full speed ahead
My mistake I am totally new to cart ownership and wife was told it was a 89. Learning from here how to check for year I now know it is a 84. If that makes any difference in help with answers to symptoms.

Re: Full speed ahead
The cart has a speed switch assembly and not the speed switches shown in the diagram. It also has 3 12 volt batteries that are new instead of 6 6 volt. Wife bought it a yard sale for $1000 and wanted to surprise me. She did now with what might be a situation where this cart may never be ok. Any info is helpful, maybe it will not be worth investing more money into but I simply do not know enough to decide just yet. Looks like the seller was looking for a victim and rigged the cart and my wife was his sucker. Plate has following info A8451 67118

Re: Full speed ahead
I think any running golf cart is worth what she paid.
I do think with a little tinkering it will be fine for yard or campground use. Delve deep into the 5 solenoid wire diagram (find it in the stickies above) and understand how the 5 micro switches trigger the 5 solenoids. Learn which solenoid is the master solenoid and how that effects all other solenoids. Learn how each solenoid directs the current through a different resistor coil to the motor. Once you understand this slightly intricate simple system, you'll get along with it just fine..... as long as you are not putting big tires on it or 4 passengers or tackling big hills. |

Re: Full speed ahead
I replaced the solenoids and the micro switches and it now works fine.

Re: Full speed ahead
What fixed the "clunk" sound you mentioned?

Re: Full speed ahead
On the clunking sound when the speed of the cart at start was regulated correctly the sound simply went away. fingers crossed

Re: Full speed ahead
Glad you got it fixed...
I had my first experience with a 5 solenoid resistor cart this week and kinda liked it. This particular cart needed a new micro switch that triggered the master solenoid, then it ran great. As for your clunk, I'm sure it was just the motor going from nothing to full throttle that caused it. Now that it's accelerating properly, you shouldn't have any problems. |
