HID LIGHT KIT now cart won't move

I have a 2007 CC DS IQ cart it has 4 12volt batteries. I bought it with HID Light kit on it yesterday everything worked great on cart except lights. I pulled it into garage and was attempting to put a dashboard kit on the cart. I tightened the screws on light kit and it began working. I realized the wires from the Lightkit weren't long enough to reach 4 more inches out to new dash so trying to use the slack I took the negative wire off Battery number 1 and put it on negative terminal on battery #2. Leaving the positive wire on battery #1. Once I hooked all batery cables back up then put cart in Run tried to move it it was dead.

The reverse buzzer sounds but there is no Click from the solenoid, the drivers side HID headlight works passenger doesn't. At lunch I went to buy a voltage meter( I have never used one), can someone explain or send me a link to a video on how to check for what is wrong. I am really not knowledgeable with wiring and electrical terms and common place.

Any help is sooo greatly appreciated as I bought a new cart to me yesterday while trying to add a dash I fear that I messed the cart up.

I was thinking that the battery on passenger side was #1 but I read in a different thread that is #4. So in my above mess up I took negative off of #4 and attached to #3 leaving positive attached to #4. So that is probably a big no no. Have I ruined my cart?

One bit of advise. If you don't know anything about electricity don't go switching around wires. And if you do at least take a picture before hand where you can put it back like it was. Your cart is not ruined but it may cost you some money to get it running again. Good Luck.

Not exactly sure all what you did but reverse everything you did for now, undo your lighting. What screws on the light kits you tighten? Little vague you need to be precise on what was done, exactly otherwise it is hard to troubleshoot via post on a web forum. Pictures would be a big help, your Volt meter will come with basic instructions, start there. You can actually damage parts that cost hundreds so make sure you understand and know what your doing first. Trying to stretch wires 4" seems to be a lot, probably not a good idea. Possibly you blew a fuse, burnt up the OBC or numerous other items.

In this forum is schematics, look up your year cart and get familiar with the schematic, it is very important to make electrical changes without anything powered, If necessary this may mean disconnecting your battery pack to be extra safe.

I tried to draw it out and if I follow, you had the - from battery #4 (which is 36v+) and put it on the - of battery #3...was the other end still connected to + on battery #3? If so you it's possible you shorted out battery #3 and broke the series for the cart to run, the lights may still work if they are connected directly from battery #1 for 12v power.

Try this and see what you find. With a voltmeter start by setting it to 20 VDC. Test each battery by itself with the - to negative and + to positive from the voltmeter on each battery and see if you get 12-14 volts from each.

If all batteries test OK alone.

Now change the meter to 100-200 VDC (anything > 60 will do we're testing to see if the batteries are properly connected in series). If you've reconnected correctly:

- lead to negative battery #1 - do not move from this battery
+ lead to positive battery #1 should have - 12-14 volts
+ lead to positive battery #2 should have - 24-28 volts
+ lead to positive battery #3 should have - 36-42 volts
+ lead to positive battery #4 should have - 48-56 volts

If the total voltage is sum of all 4 batteries we're looking for something else as the culprit.

Safety First - Remember to always follow the battery disconnect procedure for your cart. Reconnect with the procedure when done with your work.

If you have a camera/camera phone can you post a picture of your battery compartment.

#2=12.55
#3=12.53
#4=12.52

If all batteries test OK alone.

+ lead to positive battery #4 should have - 48-56 volts=50.2
