Re: Gray Material in Battery
could be a build up of gunk from filling with non-distilled water.....all in all its possible there are several reasons for it at this point i would check cells with a hydrometer and see where we are at but that stuff isn,t a good sign.........................

Re: Gray Material in Battery
I was getting < 1.0 SpGv and they would not charge more then 6 volts. 4 of them stayed at 5.8 and one appeared to have a dead cell. I am flushing them a couple times and EDTA'ed 2 of them overnight. I just finished adding new acid and have them (series) on a 12v charger for a slow charge. One of the guinea pigs is the suspected shorted battery. I'll know tomorrow, but so its working SWEEEET!

Re: Gray Material in Battery
to get them back you need voltage at each battery at least 6. 4 volts or better....the gravity readings are also a problem they should be in the area 1.25 each give or take a wee bit and they should all read very close togather so if you have 5 batts reading 1.25 and 1 batt reading say 1.60 than thats as problem........keep us updated.........................................

Re: Gray Material in Battery
5 out of 6 make it. I screwed one up by trying to dig garbage out of it. NAPA had the acid @ $25 (1.265 SpGv) for 5 gallons.
