2010 CC Precedent fried resistor\diode

My cart just locked up while driving (felt like I slammed on the brakes). I put the cart in neutral and back in gear and was able to get it to my stall to charge. The next morning the cart would not move forwards or backwards. Lights, charger and reverse buzzer work normally.

Not sure if this is relevant to the issue:
I had noticed if my cart was sitting in the stall for an extended period of time (1 week) without moving there would be a a loud click when moving the cart from my stall. This has happened since I got the cart used a year ago.

Attached is a picture of the resistor\diode that was attached to the solenoid on my 2010 CC Precedent. could it be that the resistor\diode is faulty? Or does it get hot due to a faulty solenoid, controller or other?

Any help is appreciated.

Put your ohmmeter on that resistor and see if it is open or do you measure some resistance.

I get .264k testing the burnt resistor.

I think that resistor is reading low, it should be in the .500K range. I don't think that is your problem.

djbwayne - If you PM me your address I will send you a new diode. I had to by 10 of them when I needed one. These are the HD 3A ones. As far a the resistor you need a 240 ohm 10W for a 36v or a 500 ohm 10w for 48V system. The resistor (shown in your photo) minimizes the arcing when the contacts close, some HD and newer solenoids may have them built in or don't need them. The diode dissipates the flyback voltage. Always install diode with band toward the positive battery terminal.

So you're saying I need a diode installed as well (on the small terminals on the solenoid)? There wasn't one on there by default. I'm trying to figure out why the resistor is getting that hot. Something has to cause it to burn up.

My bad I thought you said you had a diode also. I will wait for Tahoe or Scotty to chime in. I might have spoke out of turn thinking you said you have both.

I wasn't sure what it was. I read in a bunch of posts about resistor's and diode's attached to the solenoid. The attached picture was the only thing attached to the solenoid. I have since figured out it's a resistor. I just don't know if they can be faulty or they burn up due to a faulty solenoid, controller or other.

I get .264 on the solenoid, also. Should it be that low?

Here is a picture of a 2010 precedent solenoid w/diode. Look close it's the cylindrical black object across the small terminals.
