Melted post/replaced/now no run
I am trying to help a friend out. 2007 precedent w/ 4 12's. Voltage was checked and was 51.8 volts in pack. Charger was working fine. After hauling cart for 2.5 hours to new home it melted a post on a battery (negative terminal). Replaced battery, now reverse buzzer works but the cart will not move. Any suggestions? Key is in "ON" position and run/tow is in run.

Are you absolutely POSITIVE you hook it back up correctly? Sounds like you put it in backwards!!

What do you think is backwards? The positive & negative cables on terminals?

Yes, battery cables are hooked up correctly. Any fuses to check? I have an 2010 model and there is a fuse behind the back wall of the battery box. I think 07's have one under the middle panel in the battery box...yes?

What caused the battery post to melt! Possibility of ruining controller. Doesn't take much to do it.

Re: Melted post/replaced/now no run
I think your run/tow switch should have been in the tow position on the trip home. It takes a lot of energy to melt a battery post. Probably melted the controller also.

Re: Melted post/replaced/now no run
To me it reads like the 51.8 reading was before the fact. What is the reading now?

Re: Melted post/replaced/now no run
Update : The owner emailed me that he disconnected all battery cables and then reconnected with lock washers. He also replaced a fuse on the blue wire coming from the charge receptacle. Everything is working fine now.
51.8 was before the battery replacement. Cart was in tow mode while on way to new home. I always put in tow mode if not in use. I believe the melted post was due to cables/batteries being jostled by bumps on the trip. Thanks for the replies folks! |
