Default Convert Excel to IQ?

Hey, everyone. I acquired a 2008 precedent earlier this week and was a little disappointed in the speed. Looks like I'm limited to about 12MPH. After much research on this forum I have determined that I have the Excel system, and that there doesn't appear to be a quick and easy way to get more speed out of it. I don't want to replace the motor, I'd just like to open it up a bit more.

I found on one of the threads that you could possibly convert the excel system to an IQ system by just getting the wiring harness (p/n 103374901) and an IQ controller. My question is if this will work on my particular cart, and if so, will it then be fully compatible with a SpeedyLink, 2Speed, or Speed Code 5 system?

Of course I'd rather just take it to a dealer and have it programmed, but the nearest dealer is hours away.

My s/n starts with PH0839 if that helps.

Of course, if there is some other method that I don't know about, please fill me in!

Thank you for your input!

I think when you check the price of new controller and wiring harness, the motor change is the easiest. I went from 15 to about 25 MPH with the Plum Quick Bandit. It is about 225.00 exchange. You will have some shipping charges but IMHO it is the easiest and best bang for the buck.

Here is the thread about mine.

Interesting.... I figured a motor change would require a new controller, etc., but if it's just a simple swap and nothing else it would definitely be worth it. How intense was the motor swap?

To change the motor it is 4 wires and 3 or 4 bolts. The motor is heavy but you can change it in about an hour.

Here is another link to my swap with some pics.

A Bandit motor does not "require" a new controller nor does the Executioner it can and will work just fine on a stock 250 controller; BUT both both will perform much better with a larger controller, solenoid & cables but are not absolute requirements.

An Excel cart can only utilize factory CC speed codes up to SC4 it can not use speed magnets, SC5 or the Speedy Link....

With that being said my cart is an Excel running an Executioner Motor and it will do 20 MPH flat and 28 downhill now and I'm told to expect upwards of 30ish with a big 500 amp Curtis controller that is all but plug & play... So you can have speed with an Excel it just does not come cheap by way of speed magnets etc....

I bought a Altrax 500 amp controller for my Excel - it didn't work as advertised. I had to swap to the IQ wiring harness. That being said it does work. The MCOR has issues with the Alltrax or the Alltrax has issues with the MCOR. Difficult to get full power without sacrificing low-end smoothness.

Personally I would look at another brand of controller if you go this route.

14 inch wheels + lift = about 19 ish with a stock motor.

There are only two differences between your cart and an IQ cart of the same year. The wire harness and the controller. Every single aspect about the two cars are exactly the same. So to answer your question, all you need is a harness and a controller. After you've converted it you may use speed magnets or the speed code 5 or any other modification you'd like to use as long as it's for an IQ car.

Awesome! That's the answer I was looking for, Tahoe! So if I were to replace the controller anyway, I might as well get the harness and make it an IQ. Then I could replace the motor (thanks for the links, BigBlock - seems easier than I thought) and have it open to a whole new world of possibilities!

One thing I was when I was talking to PQ, they make a good point, the Excel is where Club has gone and the performance upgrades are slowly catching up. The Bandit option will make a very affordable option for more speed, Randy said most people that did it was very happy with the performance.

I agree. I have a 2014 Excel and just did the PQ Bandit motor upgrade and it went well. (Note: The new Excel does not have an OBC)
