Controller upgrade 1515 - 5201 Excel 250A
I have a 2010 Precedent electric golf cart (excel motor), with an Executioner replacement motor from PQ and upgraded wiring and solenoid. Motor is brilliant and has significantly improved performance, but I had real issues trying to install the FSIP 1268 500A controller which would have completed the upgrade to my cart.
I live in an island community in Hong Kong and am reliant on a small golf cart garage to do all the work on the cart. We had the cart in the garage for the best part of a week and I tried to work through the conversion instructions with them. Having seen the updated instructions online http://www.fsip.biz/Documents/62-126...XI%20rev03.pdf I have deduced that the problem may have been that the battery indicator and lighting system grounds needed rewiring (there was nothing about this in the printed instructions that I originally had to hand). Anyway, I am now after a simple 1515 upgrade option with no rewiring whatsoever (I don't speak Cantonese and my mechanic doesn't speak English and I can't face trying again with the 1268!). I just saw a 350A 1515S controller advertised. Is this possibly what I'm looking for? Has anyone tried this for improved performance? Is there a higher power version available? All comments gratefully received! Slobdiddy |

Re: Controller upgrade 1515 - 5201 Excel 250A
Interesting update from FSIP, maybe they read my post from earlier this year when I analyzed the differences in the IQ vs Excel wire harness, I came up with the same conclusion...
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...tml#post974998 I am sorry You are having a hard time finding quality professionals to work on you cart, but I am sure it does not surprise anyone in this forum.... I believe the 1268 is a much better controller, but unless you can find someone else local that can help you, that 350amp controller appears to be a 1 to 1 replacement. |

I have the same controller on my IQ 2008 precedent, worked well. I saw that note at the bottom, all of the accessories needs to be wired back to the battery otherwise you will have issues. Look at the fsip wiring instructions for the IQ, you will see different photos of some of the wiring that may help out.

Re: Controller upgrade 1515 - 5201 Excel 250A
For the 1268, I made sure that the instructions were followed to the letter but it still didn't work - this was a painful process working out where items like the Deutsche plug and pre-charge resistor were as I am not a mechanic and my mechanic doesn't speak English. That additional note about grounding accessories direct to the battery just wasn't on my printed instructions. Don't really want to go through the agro with the mechanic again just to find out that the 1268 still doesn't work.
What I want to know for the 350A 1515S is whether this is going to be a significant performance improvement v the 250A 1515 controller I have right now. From my school boy physics, 40% more current should be 96% more power but how does this work out in reality? Has anyone tried the 1515S or does anyone know whether it's any good? |
