Default Best Place to Buy

Newbie here. Recently moved to a community where golf carts are the major source of weekend transportation. Local preference seems to be Club Car Precedent due to living on an island where salt air is definitely an issue. Question is, are many of the online resellers that buy/sell and (very lightly) refurbish carts a good choice? Local Craigslist adds seem too high mostly due to the fact people have spent $$$ on lift kits and big tires which I don't want. Our cart will never leave the street. Found a company that seems to have pretty good prices and website, claims to do thorough disassembly, cleaning and minor refurbishment, is in my relative vicinity (Southeast), and will ship. Actually paid them a visit recently while on a road trip. Seem to be pretty honest and fair from my initial assessment (not that I'm an expert here). Just wanted to get a few opinions on these types of companies. Not really looking for comment on the specific company I've found, but just these types of companies in general as a reliable source to buy from and your opinions on buying a cart that had 3 years of use (abuse) and probably no proper maintenance at a golf course. The company I found seems to do a fair amount of volume mostly with 3 year old fleet lease turn ins of Club Car Precedent (currently selling mostly 2011s, 6 x 8v). I know this type of post has probably been made many times but just wanted to get a few knowledgable opinions. Thanks!

My 2 cents. You pay your money you take your chances. Me personally I wouldn't go back to the dealer I bought my Club Car from even if he was giving golf carts away. PS He was in the Southeast.

CRD, as Club Car is based in Augusta GA, there are lots of dealers in the south east. Where abouts are you?

Thank you both for the info. I'm outside of Savannah. I may continue to look more at private sellers. What are your thoughts on the wear and tear a golf cart would be subjected to in 3 years of service on a golf course? I imagine many private seller's carts may have come from golf courses anyway.

You would be amazed at how much a cart can be "worn" in its life on a golf course.. I bought an 09 EZ not too long ago and other than a few scratches and 09 batteries looked new. I have seen others that make it a year before needing major help. All of this depends on what you have in mind. I'm guessing electric. How much work are you willing to do yourself? And remember, some peoples idea of down to frame rebuilds are different..

Having worked a a golf course repairman for 8+ years, trying to keep up with all equipment including 40 Club car Precedents, you would be horrified to see some of the things golfers do to the courses' carts. They run them over stumps, into trees, the ponds and all sort of stupid things. They ran them often until the batteries are so dead that we had to go tow them in and bring the batteries to life some with an automotive charger to get the charger to come on. They go back and get another cart and leave that one till some one else reports it.
The golfers have no qualms about putting their spiked shoes on the dash, seat or windshield. We had several instances of the frames being bent from running them together. Seats really suffer from cigarettes left on them while burning.
They figure that it doesn't belong to them so why care about it and they will see how much abuse it will take.

Some carts when the lease is up will not go under their power and have to be pushed onto the truck to leave.

I would definitely want the cart to under go a major dealer refurbishment to restore it to some semblance of new likeness before spending money on .

Thanks for the opinions and feedback. I may continue to look at private sellers a while longer. Private sellers just seem to really want a premium. Especially those who bought them new. I suppose you get what you pay for but it seems most carts started out at golf courses anyway so buying from a company just seemed a safer way to go.

What is the price difference on a three year old cart vs a new cart? Doesn't sound like you want to do anything other than stock and if you buy new you know exactly what your getting.
