Default CC DS tork advice

Have a handicapped customer who I try to take care of. He has an early DS 48 volt Regen I or II,with very little tork or speed. He has a very, very limited budget but I need to get him some more tork for the least amount of money. The battery pack is current Trojan T-875's,I know where I would go if I had a normal budget but I will do this at cost.Tork is the need, speed is irrelevant.I'm thinking 4ga cables,400 amp dcx alltrax,200 amp solenoid, but if anyone has any better cheaper ideas, please lay them on me..Thanx in advance: Dave

Last I checked (and I did check, because everyone seems to dislike them so much) its pretty expensive to upgrade the controller on a Regen 1.

If budget is REALLY TIGHT and speed is of no concern - maybe the bolt pattern on a Go-Kart 6" rim might match up - or you could modify Kart rims to match? If you reduced the rim diameter, and used lo-profile 6" Kart tires, you may find that adding only the cable upgrade will make that cart a pretty good little hill climber. Might look a bit goofy - but your after the end result - right?

BTW - I have a Regen 1 and its got a respectable amount of torque & speed with standard tires (15 mph) - so I'm wondering if your just seeing the start of battery pack issues? When my batteries were on their last legs (end of last year) my cart got very slow and poor on hills. It just got slower and weaker - no shuddering like series carts do...just slow and low power (and a glowing battery light under load).

I have no idea what is typical on Regen 2 for speed and power.

If batteries are good, I would think the bandit motor would be the most efficient way to go from what I've heard.

That would sure work! I wasn't aware that Bandit rebuilds were offered on the older Regen 1 and Regen 2 motors. I do know that D&D made a Regen 1 speed motor (probably still does) but it wasn't a swap motor - it was for outright purchase.

Thanx guys for the input, the batts are 1 year old Trojans but this weekend I will load and hydrometer check them.I am a PQ dealer and did give some thought to the bandit but my brain is still saying get more amps to it.I will also get a grip on weather it is a Regen I or II,as said earlier nothing for the Regen I in terms of up grades,FSIP has a conversion kit to 350 amps but I haven't priced it out.Keep the ideas coming..Thanx again Dave

Remember those old Regen models had an additional resistor coil in series with the motor. There is a second solenoid that should be ON under normal driving conditions that takes the resistor coil out of the circuit. If that solenoid fails, there will be very little torque as the current is limited. The coil will also get really hot after driving it for a while.

I think the Regen coil and solenoid were meant to "dampen" the feedback current during deceleration, to protect the batteries. Sergio - brilliant insight! If the Regen solenoid was locked on, that resistor coil would glow virtually red hot and kill power like crazy!

Ok guys the pack is not the issue, completly checked,no 2nd solenoid on the gen 1,so no issue there.Soooooo looks like a motor up grade, all I have seen for the GenI is a conversion kit from FSIP up to 350 amp.It can come with either reman or new controller so they are changing it over to a more avaliable model.Has anyone tried this ??? I called but techs were all busy ??

Not sure if I understood this part, there is definitively a 2nd solenoid on the regen1 that takes the resistor coil off the circuit... or did You mean no issues with 2nd solenoid?
