Default Charger has me stumped…..

I frequent this site often and usually a quick search answers all my questions, except this time.

I have an 05 Club Car DS 48V with power drive charger. 6 8volt batteries are a year old, load test as new, when charged the numbers are all 8.8 - 8.9 v.

Problem is my charger stays at 5amps forever, it starts at 15ish and within an hour or so it is down to about 5amps, and does not shut off. I tested all the batteries again and they are fully charged, load test all perfectly, go and drive it a few miles and return, all load test perfectly and have equal charges. I put on the charger again and it drops quickly to 5amps and stays for hours (more than 16, I have to unplug it).

I know this usually means I have a bad cell or OBC, but I used a neighbors charger and it fully charged in 2 hours and shut off, so I believe it is my charger. I just can not find any good info on how to trouble shoot my charger and know literally nothing about chargers.

If you can help me find a thread that has this info I would appreciate it, youtube has been no real help so far.

thank you

Since another charger worked fine on your cart, my guess is your charger relay is showing the early stages of contact welding.

Thanks for the reply. I am unfamiliar with chargers, but is that relay a part in the rebuild kits?

I have not.

I can try that, but would the OBC need to be reset if a different charger works correctly on my cart?
