Default caked on corrosion in battery compartment

I just bought a 2007 Club Car DS. It runs fine, but I want to get it cleaned up so that it will last a long time. I have removed the batteries and are cleaning them up but the frame has inches of caked on corrosion that even hitting it full blast with water and trying to scrape is hard to remove. Any suggestions on a chemical safe to the cart to remove this corrosion?

Thanks!!

Coca Cola. It'll take it off.

Just got through fixing the same situation on a 2000 CC DS I bought. Guess it is easier to ignore the situation than spend the time doing maintenance... I used a couple of gallons of Baking Soda solution I made up, pouring, spraying, and brushing it on, while scraping with a putty knife, and lots of water to wash it off. After I had it down to what I thought was pretty clean condition, I sprayed on some battery cleaner from Auto Zone, and it still foamed up (I didn't realize it was a foaming cleaner). Then went back to my BS solution, and decided after I didn't see any reaction it was cleaned up. Depending on how much corrosion, it may take a couple of hours if you do it the way I did it. You could be shocked at the actual condition of the battery rack when you get all the corrosion off, I had to replace two of the angle brackets that were nearly eaten through.

Thanks, I will try both! yeah, I already see one bracket that I need to do something about because it looks like if unattended it might break very soon!

Thanks!

What he said. Then rinse well and use some kind of corrosion inhibitor.

It you have a die grinder a brass wheel will do wonders. Be sure to wear eye protection when working to clean acid in any fashion.
