New guy here with a 2011 Precedent. I have some ?s
I recently purchased a 2011 Precedent with the excel drive system. I'm doing the whole lift, paint, lights etc. to it starting this weekend. Getting pretty excited about getting it done.
The guy I bought it from buys lots of carts from private courses and sells them from his house. The one I got looks like it came off the showroom floor. He said he deals with club car and come out and put the code 4 in all the carts he gets. My understanding is that the code 4 should put the speed at 19.5 mph. Mine will go 17 mph but no faster. He did say that some of the programs were installed incorrectly and that he would send the tech over to reinstall the program. My question is, in doing a ton of research I found that some carts will only accept speed code 3 and not 4. I'm not sure if mine is one of them but it has a 1515-5201 speed controller. I know there's a lot of knowledge on this site so it seems like the best place to ask. I like all the pictures everyone posts of their custom carts so I'll be posting some pictures when I get it all done. Thanks for any help ya'll can give. |

You are good, they probably need to set the correct "Speed Calibration" setting.
Code 4 is 19.2mph, You can reduce that speed by 3mph in 30 increments of 0.1mph with the "Speed Calibration" setting. The carts that don't accept code 4 are the ones that somebody that did not know what they were doing locked out that controller setting by entering the wrong code more than 3 times. Any way, code 3 would have been 14.8mph. Edit: The correct value for "Speed Calibration" should be 0. |

Ok. So knowing that, I should probably get the guy to re enter it? It has factory 8" wheels and tires on it by the way.

No the code 4 is good, they need to set the "Speed Calibration" to the correct setting of 0.

Ok. By setting it to zero will it affect torque or the motor braking? It currently has almost no noticeable motor braking which I like. I could stand for a little better takeoff but it's pretty good.

Not at all, for each increment of the "speed calibration" setting, the top speed gets reduced by 0.1mph.
You cannot disable the Regen Brake that governs the maximum speed, only the "Pedal Up" braking. "Pedal Up Mode Setting" of 0 will disable that feature entirely, setting it to 1 will make it mild, 2 is the most aggressive pedal up brake mode. |

Excellent! Thanks for the info. I know I'll have more questions in the future and this is definitely the place to ask.

Actually I have one more question then I'll leave ya'll alone for a while.
I was told that the batteries were brand new but how do you date them to know for sure? My batteries are PD plus batteries. Is there a chart to determine dates? |

Different makers stamp their batteries in different ways. Trojan stamps a date code via a single letter and number, like G3. That would be July 2013. I dont' recall right off hand how the PD batteries are stamped, but it could be a small series of numbers and letters that would look something like 2A353F. In some cases, that would be January 2012. In some others, it would be January 2013. It seems that they all have their own little methods, but I'm sure someone will know the specifics of the PD units.
If you want to get rid of the regen function, get a new magnet for the motor. It will eliminate regen and also opens up for faster speed. |
