Default Little gain from major upgrade

I just upgraded my 95 Club Car Series cart with 4 gauge cables, Alltrax SPM 48400 (400 amps), HD F&R, HD solenoid from Carts Unlimited (pkg 484). The installation was a snap. The only thing I did not yet replace is the stock CC motor which I intend to replace next week with a PQ Bandit. Before the upgrade, my cart suffered horribly when climbing the smallest hills. I thought I'd see a substantial torque increase with the new parts installed. But I just don't see it. I did gain a couple of mph speed on the level road, but no improvement at all that I can tell in torque. It still struggles on the smallest hill as before. I'm wondering if adjustment to the new controller might help? And can I do that with the controller mounted in the cart? What adjustment(s) to make? Any help much appreciated.

How good are your batteries?

Definitely check the batteries. You should have noticed a good boost in torque with the controller and cables.

Another vote for check your batteries.... What is the voltage for each battery after they have been charged and allowed to rest for at least 12 to 16 hours? If your batteries are not up to snuff none of your upgrade will do you justice...

The controllers come set to 100% output, so that no adjustment is needed. Put a meter on the pack and note the voltage reading now start up the hill and tell us how low the reading goes.

In the case of weak batteries upgrades can actually exasperate the performance problem by allowing the motor to access more amperage - if that amperage supply is low.

It looks like my upgrade should have included a new set of batteries. Per Scottyb instructions, no load at the bottom of a moderately steep hill (100 foot climb) I read 50.0 volts, as I climb the hill the voltage drops off to 46.3 volts. Thanks to all that responded.

I'm pretty new here, so apologies if the following suggestion is a violation of protocol.

Have you considered switching to GAS power? Even slow engines can handle hills.

No gas for me. IMO they stink and are noisy, not to mention burning fuel constantly. My car does enough of that. Also gas carts are not very popular here in Peachtree City to the electric cart owners for the same reasons. Just my opinion.

No offence meant, but I drive my cart nearly every day, and it uses so little fuel that I need to add stabilizer to keep it from going to gel.

I don't object to electricity, and look forward to the day that power storage systems become lighter, cheaper, and more efficient. In the meantime, I'll be happy to lend you a tow next time I see you at the bottom of a hill.

Cheers,
