Powerdrive Charger Circuit Breaker By-passed

My Powerglide 48V charger had been working just fine for the past 20-25 charge cycles, and I was cleaning the dust off the outside and noticed that the bottom was kinda bent up, and thought, "well I'll just take it apart, and straighten it out", plus I was a little curious to see if it needed anything cleaned, spiders blown out, etc.

When I got the cover off, I was surprised to find the circuit breaker had been circumvented; disconnected and the black input line connected to the relay. I reconnected everything properly, and the charger wouldn't work, so I am assuming the circuit breaker is bad, and the previous owner by-passed the circuit breaker when it stopped functioning.

I am going to order a new circuit breaker, but wanted to know if I should go for a complete repair kit, or am I wasting my $$$? The charger was manufactured in 1999.

the breakers are known to go weak and pop .. i'd just do the breaker for now

I appreciate the advice, I was thinking along those lines, and hoped that the other components were high on the reliability scale. It isn't like it is a big deal to take the cover off the charger to replace another component if one should wear out down the line.

You could always install an inline fuse instead of replacing the breaker. Use a slow blow same current rating as the breaker.
