Default Club Car's gone to 4-12v bat.

I noticed on the Club Car website that they are using 4-12v batteries. (I realize these arn't normal 12v batteries)
How long have they been doing this and what are the pros and cons?

they produced those batteries first in 2004 on the precedent cars... I think the 06 DS models have them now too. To let you in on quality of them, 2008 precedents have an option to be purchased with 6 8 volts instead.
