2002 club car ds iq battery cable advice.
I am currently tearing down my 2002 ds iq and will be making my own cables.
does anyone have any pointers for the type of wire i/e size/gauge. I have some zero or 1/0 wire but im thinking this is a bit overkill. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

WELCOME TO BGW!
The bigger the better! Just make sure your not using automotive cable. Welding cable is preferred. What size motor and controller are you running? |

Re: 2002 club car ds iq battery cable advice.
The real fine stranded should be ok. Stock set-ups come with 6g wire. Most will upgrade those to 4g. If you plan on modifying the cart, then I would go bigger. Having the bigger cables now won't hurt anything. It'll save you down the road when you do decide to upgrade motor, controller, solenoid and F/R switch. Electricity will flow better and cables stay cooler.
What is the amp cable rated for? Also take into consideration it's going to be exposed to all the harsh elements. Just hope it has a good insulation on it. Post up some pics. Gotta any more info like what size motor, controller, solenoid, is it lifted with big tires, etc....? |

Buy a crimping tool. Don't try doing it with a hammer. If you are soldering the cables try to keep the solder from wicking up into the cable. That's a little trick I learned in NASA soldering school. It will make the cable to rigid.

I just wonder what size cable the guys at plumb quick use on there dragster carts. I would suspect we would never need anything larger than they are using. If you have not watched the utube of there carts you are missing a good video.

I think 2AWG Welding cable is a great size. I use it often.

I agree, we use 4 and 2 gauge cable on everything. The cable you use should have an acid resistant jacket, like welding cable.
