Wiring Help - 12-24V Led

Hi everyone,

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help me with wiring some new LED work lights for my 08 Clubcar DS. I can follow most wiring diagrams but my theory is a little lacking.

For safety reasons I want some basic lighting on the cart that my cleaners use occasionally dawn/dusk.

The front lights are rated 12-24V (10W 0.72A@12V or 0.35A@24V)
The rear lights are rated 10-30V (no wattage specs but a few watts I would guess)

So I was thinking to split the battery bank in half and source power for 1 front/rear light combination from 3x8V and the other 2 lights from the other half, with appropriate fuse/switch/relay. I would imagine this method would require 2x switches/relays/fuses?

Is there a more elegant solution?

Anyone willing to do me up a wiring diagram I would be very appreciative.

What is the cart voltage. Most agree it is better to use a voltage reducer and draw off the entire pack.

Going to assume that you have a 48 volt cart... While you could do it simply by tapping the batteries to get the voltage you desire; tapping is one of the worst methods of getting reduced voltage and puts unequal loading on your batteries in both usage but in the recharging too... It is simply best to install a 48/12 voltage reducer and wire all of your new LED lights to run off of 12 volts.

Go the reducer or separate battery route. Then place a fuse block- pos in to block and individual pos to the switches then out of switch to pos of lights. All neg to a ground block and not to the frame.

Well then don't call it a ground block then.... I have both positive and negative terminal blocks on my cart but no "ground" blocks....

Teecro thanks for your eloquent correction. I said dont ground to frame. Atleast i gave him guidance to wire them up. Ill remember to say neg terminal block in your honor.

its called a ground terminal block and will keep you safe from the frame!

i installed led lites and a horn on my cart.
since they are led they don't draw much (and i don't use them much) so i used power straight off the batteries
if you split the batteries in half you'll need separate circuits, fuses and switches for front and rear lites.
i used eyelets that fit my posts to tap 3 batteries, 24v. one circuit, fuse and switch for my lites
i used a couple of spade ends crimped on the wire to plug in a fuse ran to the switch and then lites
doing it this way you'll need to run a neg wire from each lite to the 3rd battery neg

if i was hooking up a stereo or something that i used often i would get the voltage converter

The cart is indeed 48V.

mrgolf/teecro - I would have thought there would be some inefficiencies (waste heat etc) in using a voltage reducer but also realize the advantages of drawing evenly off the entire pack.

Epb - I will get a ground terminal block - thanks!

_ogre - that sounds along the lines of what I was thinking. Very low current draw so wasn't too worried about the uneven draw on the batteries.

I'll look at pricing both options and make a decision from there. Thanks again.
