Default Lighting Strike

Well good grief we had what we assume to have been a lighting strike on the house that took out our phones, wireless router, 60" & 32" TV's and the charger to the golf cart... On unplugging and replugging the cart side plug the charger makes the normal click sound and then begins to hum very loudly with about 5 amps showing on the gauge after several seconds the circuit breaker on the charger pops. Thankfully the cart runs fine. Going to try trouble shooting today. Needed this like a hole in the head, closing on purchasing our house next Tuesday. Got insureance but dang ya got to hate using it....

Most likely took out one of the rectifiers...

It is a good idea to have the charger plugged to a surge protector, although it would not help for a direct hit.

If you have a hot running PowerDrive 3, look for one of those 'Smart' surge protector where you can plug a fan in the "controlled" plug and it will come on automatically to cool off the charger anytime the charger is running.

Crazy that my tv and stuff that are gone were hooked to a quality power strip and it still works...

Some of the damaging voltage could have come thru coax cable, if you have cable TV.

That's what I think it came from the phone or sat line...

Often it comes through phone line or cable. That wouldn't take out your cart charger though. It's also possible it went through your ground cables.

Overall hard to understand exactly how and why. We got phone and Internet back today, phone replaced, router replaced and phone guy installed new outside and inside boxes and cables. Found several sat parts not powering up so that's out till Sunday.

OK so I jumper ed around the relay and plugged in, breaker still tripped. Lifted lead from one I of the rectifiers and plugged in again and breaker does not trip and I've got 63 volts AC. So that tells me one or both rectifiers are bad. Who best to purchase parts for a Lester PQ charger model # 26580

Let me tell you what happened to me today. I got back from the store and plugged my cart in. A little while later I noticed it wasn't charging. The first thing that went through my mind was hooray time for a new DPI charger. But alas the wall breaker was tripped. I reset it and everything is working fine now. I don't know why it tripped maybe another day for the DPI.

Okay so color me a deep shade of confused.... Purchased a pair of new diode packs only to discover that each old one is a different polarity; the side mounted pack is positive and the top mounted pack is negative. I can now see the difference in the diode orientation. I've not been able to find anyone selling the negative top mounted diode pack... What the heck gives here?
