Default Re: Mountain Gravel Roads

This is an old thread that I started. I have solved my acceleration uphill problems by switching to lithium batteries and increasing my voltage by 3 volts. I am still using the original resistor speed control, and it has held up. I did go to 2 gauge wiring and a HD F/R switch. I've just had to replace 1 solenoid in the past 2 1/2 years. The switch to lithium resulted in a substantial weight reduction. My problem now is braking. I would very much like to have front brakes, as the combination of steep roads and driveways with gravel base results in unreliable braking. The existing back brakes are functioning fine, but are not sufficient for the gravel downgrades. I would not mind spending the money on a front brake kit, but this would also result in having to buy new tires and rims, as I have 8" now, and the Jake's kit requires 10" rims.

Does anyone have a front brake setup from a Carryall or DS that they are willing to sell that would work on my '85 DS, or any suggestions? Thanks,

Jack
