2002 48V with no top end or torque

Hi all,

First time poster. Be gentle...

I have a 2002 CC 48V with new batteries. Measured voltage across each battery is 8.5 - 8.7V, total voltage is 51.6V. These are relatively new Interstate batteries that replaced Trojans.

The cart doesn't seem to have any climbing torque or high end speed, compared to other carts at the course we live on.

I have the wiring diagram from the sticky section. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and how I can troubleshoot it? My first thought was the batteries were shot and that didn't fix it. Now it is time to ask for help before I spend a bunch more money :-)

(Followup with more info.)

After looking at (http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...have-slow.html) I have more data.

I have the F/R lever type.

It is not slow from take-off.

The charger seems to be working fine.

While pushing on level cement garage floor, it takes moderate effort to move it and it makes a slight squeaky noise.

The motor is Club Car 48V 3.10 HP.

The solenoid clicks after pushing the pedal less than 1" at the top of the pedal.

Welcome to the forum Swill......................

It sure sounds like you have the brakes on one wheel dragging or adjusted too tight.

Jack up the rear and see if the wheels turn freely. You may just find the problem here.

V-glide, maybe...just a guess?

I'm not familiar with the v-glide, although I have seen it in previous forum posts. It isn't on the wiring diagram. Can you point me to more information about it?

I will jack up the cart today and check to see if the wheels turn freely.

1st off welcome.............make sure you have no issues with brakes or brake cables hanging upl.......than make sure batteries are broke in as you said new its gonna be 12 or so complete charge/discharge cycles before batts are up to 100% as they are only 70 to 75% when new........if you had no problems before than either the batts arn,t broke in yet or double check all you cables cause its really not hard to put a cable on wrong......................let us know if you do find something ok................................................

Ok, I jacked the cart up and tested the rear wheels turning... They spin, but they don't turn easily, say like a bike wheel. After applying full throttle, they each spin for about 7 seconds after releasing the gas. Is this normal or does it sound like the brakes are grabbing, or something else?

I also checked the battery voltage while doing this. I get 50.2 V sitting, and 49.1 V while full throttle. The batteries have been charged probably 30-40 times since purchase. I'm pretty good about keeping it charged and proper water levels.

you can try un-adjusting ther brakes a tad to see if that helps.........as for your batteries when you charge your cart do you leave the charger on till it shuts off by itself( very important ) also can you take a voltage reading from each battery and write it down and than load test each battery and write those #,s down.........post the voltage #,s..........................................

- Battery voltage (haven't charged since yesterday) - still / loaded
(1) 8.5 / 8.3
(2) 8.4 / 8.2
(3) 8.3 / 8.1
(4) 8.3 / 8.1
(5) 8.3 / 8.1
(6) 8.5 / 8.3

By loaded, do you mean running the cart while measuring the voltage? If so, that is the second number for each battery above.

I will have to figure out how to play with the tension adjustment on the brakes. Any hints or clues before I try later today?
